The 10 essentials (Boy Scout style) 2007/11/18

(Yep, I was a Boy Scout.)

The traditional wisdom is that when you go out into the woods, even in relatively tame National Park-y areas, you take ten things with you that'll help out if and when you get lost. I say "when" only because I enjoy getting lost and finding my way. (In a completely literal way, none of that touchy-feely introspection.)

And as I'm getting my stuff together to head up to Point Reyes this afternoon, I could only think of nine of the ten essentials. The one I forgot was a First Aid kit. Fitting, since I never carry one on longer trips, either. Bad idea, certainly, but if you're concerned, bring your own. Anyway, here are the ten essentials:
